Not often seen, a magnificent small Duke viola, London c1770.


Branded "Duke" below button and "Duke" & "16" to lower rib.


It has an original neck/scroll with the neck built-up at root for modern playing.


Original amber/brown varnish is plentiful.


Lovely one-piece maple back with matching ribs.


Excellent condition - minor repairs to front (not soundpost or bass bar). Historic repairs to pegbox.


Quality set-up with fancy pegs (Victorian?), Passione strings and Hills & Son bridge.


LOB: 378mm (under 15")


Ideal for the viola player/violinist looking for a small instrument without the loss of that wonderful deep viola tone.
