Superb French violin late 18th century - illegible label
  • Superb French violin late 18th century - illegible label

Most likely French violin from the Chappuy workshop dated from the late 18th Century.  (Dendro has confirmed the date).  It is labelled, good luck trying to read that!

This is an elegant violin with widely spaced beautifully cut ff holes.

Two piece nicely flamed back with an ebony crown.

It has some historically repaired cracks to front and back, including some replacement wood.

Most likely replacement neck, and the scroll does not appear to be as elegant as the rest of the instrument.

New set-up with professionally cut bridge and Passione strings.  Old rosewood pegs.

    LOB: 357mm

Fabulous sounding violin for the professional violinist.
